About

For more than fifty years I’ve worked across the full landscape of broadcast television—from the early days of SABC Radio and the launch of South African television, to designing modern small-studio systems and supporting community broadcasters across the continent. My experience spans national broadcasters, private production companies, education institutions, and emerging digital studios, and it has shaped the practical, grounded approach I use today.

A major part of my career has focused on building institutions and strengthening the skills base of the industry. I co-founded CityVarsity Film, Television & Multimedia School, which for many years stood as one of South Africa’s leading media education institutions, producing graduates who went on to shape the creative and broadcast sectors. Later, as part of the consulting team that helped launch Botswana Television (BTV), I contributed to the technical planning and developed an intensive outcomes-based training programme for more than eighty new staff members—setting the foundation for a stable, professional national broadcaster.

More recently, I took Cape Town TV from a legacy composite workflow to a full HD-SDI environment and set the station on a modernisation path towards IP. This included introducing cost-effective vMix- and router-centric studio and OB systems—solutions that allowed a community broadcaster with limited resources to deliver reliable, broadcast-ready output to the national network and digital platforms. This combination of engineering experience and budget-aware system design has become a core part of my work.

Training remains central to what I do. With formal qualifications in outcomes-based programme development and years of curriculum design behind me, I have helped build academies, train volunteers, mentor new technical operators, and create learning pathways that equip young African broadcasters with practical, real-world skills. My belief is simple: strong people and strong systems are the backbone of any station, no matter its size.

This platform brings those decades of experience together. Whether you run a small studio, manage a community station, or need guidance on production workflows and training, my aim is to help you build reliable, sustainable, modern broadcast environments—using approaches shaped by a lifetime in the industry.
